*talking to father about how i dislike jared leto because of dallas buyers club and his general shittiness and how a transwomen should’ve had the role*

Dad: Maybe there are just no transwomen actresses?

Me:………….image

oh we all know that it’s Jared’s fault and not the dictators’ lol instead of while everyone’s hating Jared Leto and Macklemore for being white, male, and supporting gay rights that there are actual homophobes in the world, most with political power that you could be pointing that focus on

Doesn’t excuse the fact that Jared Leto has failed to time and time again acknowledge trans people in acceptance speeches. Also, he didn’t have to take the role. And I know it’s the directors fault as well. This post was specifically referencing the fact that people seem to think that it’s okay for cis men to play trans women, and assume no trans women could take the role.

I know that politicians are important people to target. There are many different aspects to social inequality and representation in media is an extremely important one.

While making your voice heard to people with political power is also really important, we have to tackle these issues in a wide range of places.

Things like media representation, cultural appropriation, all these kinds of things need to be tackled and changed as well, because they are just as important. Trans people, especially young trans people and trans people of colour need to be able to watch movies and television and see themselves, not white cis men playing themselves. White cis men are everywhere, and it’s about time that changed.

(Also, transphobia is much more important and prevelant than homophobia, and Jared Leto has kinda proved himself to be a little bit of a transphobe.)

he did mentioned them some way he speech about he is feeling right in the moment, BUT he doesn’t have to cause the movie is about AIDS not the transgenders his roll is not that big character he said that EVERYONE gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgenders and straight people as well deserve to love who they fucking want to without being judged that mean he talked about equality between EVERYONE and that’s what the most important!

I don’t understand why the person who plays a role must personally be that role. The point of acting is to become someone else and portray their character. You do not have to be that person to play the role. That’s why actors and actresses make the changes they do. Jared Leto acted in Requiem for a Dream and Chapter 27. For both roles he had to make a dramatic weight change. His weight gain for Chapter 27 actually gave him gout. Yet, no one complains that a larger man should have played the role, even though Leto literally made himself ill with the change.

Weight is, admittedly, not a thing to define yourself by (even though many people to do it in today’s society, but that’s another conversation). Many actors and actresses have made the weight change, like Natalie Portman for her role in Black Swan and Christian Bale’s up and down weights between the Machinist and Batman Begins. Sometimes, when someone is asked to play a role and they really want to play it, they will make the changed necessary, even if it’s dangerous to their health. As  said, though, weight does not define a person.

In film we have physically-able actors play characters with disabilities, straight actors playing gay characters, gay actors playing straight characters, actors playing people of a different race ( 1 2 3 4). Not to mention that little people weren’t part of the main cast of the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings. They did have counterparts, but the main credit went to actors of average height or taller. In a world where all this happens (and more), I have to ask why, then, is it not okay for any cis-gender person to play a transgender person? It’s acting.

Personally, I find my gender does not define me, I do not like to put too many labels on it. I know for a lot of people, though, are more reliant on their gender as a basis of who they are, and that’s okay. There is a community of transgender people who are outrages by a white cis male playing a transgender woman. To a degree, I can see why. It’s true that transgender actors and actresses don’t get enough screen time. As said, though, we can’t expect everyone to play themselves in a movie.

This is actually really funny if you think about it. I mean, there was totally some sort of ghost or demon about to kill her but then that sheet blew straight into its face and it was so embarrassed that it decided to disappear.

Mr. Nobody (2009)

Anna, Elise and Jean are all frequently dressed in colors related to their story with Nemo. Anna is dressed in red, which is commonly associated with love, Elise in blue, which represents depression, and Jean in yellow, the color of greed.

Holy shit. I had no idea.
